I had an unsatisfactory experience some time ago with radiated susceptibility testing that was supposed to be taking place in accordance with MIL-STD-461D, but wasn't.
The requirement was for UUT irradiation using sinusoidally amplitude modulated RF carriers for which the following applies:
Note in the above that the Vrms(1) calculations are brute force calculations of RMS while the Vrms(2) values come from the indicated formula.
The testing problem at hand that day was that the power amplifier being used in the test set-up was malfunctioning so that the resulting modulation waveforms went berserk and thus the impinging energy on the UUT was not as required.
Since the UUT was only a prototype, we did get some useful qualitative observations made despite the problem, but the test issue was later resolved only by taking the equipment elsewhere for its real tests.
Captivating post and content. I am glad i found it here. I learned a lot. Thanks! :)
