Yes, very interesting. It wasn't that long ago when natural gas was burned off as a waste product from oil well drilling and oil refining.

And beyond fracking, there are cows on land and methane producing bacteria and methyl hydrates in the oceans. To counteract the potential release of methane into the atmosphere, we will probably have to find methods of sequestering the methane. Then we will have methane as a byproduct of sequestering to protect the atmosphere.


I sense that methane will be more important than solar photovoltaic panels and wind powered electric generators. Eventually we will have unlimited power and no jobs.

Dr. Hy Strell, previously a Systems Engineer at Sperry Systems Management would say "In systems sufficiently large, nothing matters".

Reply to Bill Wilkes-----Thanks for your comment. I have long felt that methane gas is nature’s gift to man-----it is convertible to any of the so-called paraffin-series using the Fischer-Tropsch process known of since 1923. Being in gaseous form at room temperature it is easily moved by pipeline systems at considerable cost savings once the line is established. It can also be piped through existing pipeline systems not solely for methane or NG. Belatedly the entire country is moving to NG for home/factory heating service releasing the #2 oil for transportation use. Not only is NG in shale rock, BUT it also is in clathrate from off the continental shelves several places around the world and in quantity measured in thousands time compared to NG on aLL the continents. It is up to man’s ingenuity to figure how to recover the clathrate form when we need it. That will be after we have exhausted the NG in the shale form. ---Carl Schwab
