I was walking past this lamppost a while back when I noticed something hanging down from a rim.
At first I thought that it looked like a nest of some kind attached to the pole but I suspect that it is actually a chrysalis, a caterpillar on its way to becoming a moth or a butterfly.
I'd never seen the likes of this before. I couldn't even tell for sure if the brown biomass might be botanical or not. Its attachment to the white silk was quite secure though.
So far, this thing has remained where it is for several weeks on a heavily traveled street. Do you think it will survive to the Spring?
Like the line from the old Looney Tunes cartoon of Bosko, (1931), "Ain't Nature Grand?"
This chrysalis hung in place until August 2016 so I don't think it survived. Then one day, it was gone with just a scrap of the white thread left behind on the pole.
We'll never know for sure, will we.
