Brad Peeters

In further support of John's conclusion, I would like to point out that, if the writer of an article hopes to have more than one reader, then the time lost by readers having to seek definitions relative (no pun intended!) to the time saved for the author in not providing them is multiplied by the ratio of readers to authors, presumably many-to-one! This doesn't seem like a very good trade-off. Furthermore, if it is the author's intent to be as widely read as possible, it behooves the author not to impose unnecessary burdens on the reader. It is in their own self-interest to be clear!
