I found this collapsed light pole in a local parking lot on September 20, 2020. A close look at the broken base of this pole is disturbing.
Having apparently been impacted by some vehicle, the sheet metal tube of this pole simply tore apart causing the whole assembly to fall to the walkway. It is only by great good fortune that nobody seemed to have been injured by that falling pole.
I submit that this pole's design was fragile, deficient and inadequate for the environment in which it is/was situated. A sturdier design might not have so dangerously broken apart.
On November 2, 2020, this was the scene at that location:
At least the cone wasn't likely to fall over.
On April 26, 2021, I passed by that way again and noticed a newly installed pole at that location.
The new pole appears to be of the same design as the previous pole that had collapsed.
I must question the wisdom of this choice of replacement which seems like an invitation for the same accident to one day happen all over again.
