The use of residential solar panels is heating up because of leasing programs that let homeowners install the equipment without putting out a lot of cash up front. The annual funding for investors in leased installations is expected to grow from $1.3 billion in 2010 to about $5.7 billion by 2016, according to GTM Research, a Boston-based firm specializing in clean-energy technology.
